Administration Announces Colorado River System Conservation Agreement

The investment with Imperial Irrigation District will conserve approximately 100,000 acre-feet of water.

The Department of the Interior has announced a conservation agreement with the Imperial Irrigation District expected to save roughly 100,000 acre-feet of water in Lake Mead. The president’s administration is investing $77.6 million in water conservation, water efficiency, and protection of environmental resources in the Colorado River System.

“The Lower Colorado River Basin System Conservation and Efficiency Program is helping address, improve, and protect the long-term stability of the Colorado River System,” said Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Water and Science Michael Brain.

Reclamation Commissioner Camille Calimlim Touton said, “Addressing the drought crisis requires an all-hands-on-deck moment and close collaboration among federal, state, Tribal and local communities. IID’s commitment to system conservation is vital as we work to strengthen the stability of the entire Colorado River Basin.”
